All Hands December 2023: Ruby on Rails in a Christmas setting.

WATA Factory presenter discussing Auth0 implementation in Ruby on Rails web applications

On the 14th and 15th of December, we immersed ourselves in a festive All Hands event at WATA Factory, embracing the holiday spirit.

It was a real pleasure to have the presence of Carla Urrea Stabile, software engineer and Senior Developer Advocate at Auth0 by Okta, who guided us on an exciting journey through the world of Ruby on Rails.

To kickstart the day, we indulged in an authentic Romanian breakfast that awakened our senses with a fascinating array of flavors. We savored a diverse selection ranging from various pâtés, jams and smoked foods. A very complete breakfast that immersed us completely in the culinary richness of Romania.

Then, Carla Urrea started her session “Introduction to Ruby on Rails”, unraveling the structure of projects in this environment and we had the opportunity to create a demo application in real time.

After nourishing our minds, a Christmas lunch awaited us to nourish our stomachs. It became the perfect setting for the ideas and knowledge acquired during the morning to flow naturally among all the colleagues. Afterwards, we went to celebrate Christmas and enjoy together as a team.

The next day, after an Andalusian breakfast that filled us with vitality for the day, it was time for the new colleagues to introduce themselves to the rest of the team.

Then came the moment to immerse ourselves in WATA Factory’s annual summary analysis. Under Germán’s guidance, we embarked on a journey that reviewed our successes, achievements and areas for improvement, providing a comprehensive and detailed vision of our progress as a team.

It was at that moment when we were surprised by the unexpected appearance of Their Majesties, the Three Wise Men. They were the ones in charge of carrying out the Secret Santa gift exchange and adding a special spark to the atmosphere. With their presence, the gift giving was even more exciting and magical for everyone.

After a break for a Christmas coffee, our faces still adorned with smiles, we proceeded with departmental strategic meetings. We united ideas and approaches to drive our collaborative work forward across each of the projects.

Meanwhile, in parallel, we evaluated the progress of q.beyond ibérica during its first year, which ends this December. Together, we analyze how in this time, q.beyond ibérica has excelled in bringing leading knowledge and methodologies from Germany to southern Spain. This achievement marks a promising path, fueling our expectations for the future in the sector.

The afternoon culminated with a well-deserved lunch at Mesón Suárez, a place that has become our traditional stop to enjoy the best of local cuisine. The day concluded with a closing session where we shared reflections before saying goodbye.

In summary, the December 2023 All Hands was once again an opportunity to learn, connect and grow as a team. We thank all the participants for making this event possible and look forward to the next All Hands event in March, the first in 2024.
